This year, the prestigious British Taekwondo National Championships were held at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield; offering an impressive stage to perform on. The team weighed in on Friday ready for a big weekend ahead.
Competing for Team Cymru were Liam and Katie. After demolishing her opponents in both junior and senior divisions, Katie denied anyone else a chance of the top spot as she took the British National Champion titles in both categories. Liam was also declared British National Champion which finished day one with 3 gold medals.
After an incredible day, the team finished it on a high with a meal together to discuss the day's achievements.
Day two quickly arrived which offered opportunity for Dave, Keita and Sarah to demonstrate their skills at the biggest competition of the year. Dave kicked things off in the tough -80kg division with a solid game plan devised by himself and Coach Master Alan. Although he put in a solid performance, it was not to be as he narrowly missed out on a medal with a quarter final exit.
Next up, Sarah won her quarter finals securing the first A class medal for the team shortly followed by Keita who won hers convincingly with points gap. Two medals in the bag already!
Smashing her semi finals and scoring a 8 points with 8 punches in one match, Sarah sailed into the finals. Keita missed out on a spot in the finals after an exciting match with the overall winner who went on to beat Sarah.
The girls did incredibly well and played a dominant part in the -53kg division.
