Yesterday evening we were thrilled to receive a visit from Dr Paul Thomas - the Chair of Sport Wales. Newly appointed to his role, Dr Paul Thomas was kind enough to allocate a part of his busy schedule to see exactly what Taekwondo Cymru is all about.
In the gym at Fitzalan High School in Canton, Dr Paul Thomas paid a valuable interest in the students and watched demonstrations of Olympic Taekwondo. The displays ranged from children aged 4 up to the mothers who have joined through our 'Mums On The Mat' initiative, right through to Para-Taekwondo and our A class athletes.
Speaking with Master Porl Stone about their mutual attitude of grass roots sports, the pair were able to see how much Taekwondo Cymru accommodates those from deprived social areas.
Master Porl Stone said,
"I have heard lots about Dr Paul Thomas and his impressive background in sport. It was fantastic to finally meet him and showcase my 20 years of hard work. The club has members not only from Canton but also Pontypridd, Bridgend, and Abergavenny. As well as providing sport to the local community, the club caters for the Valleys offering them the Olympic pathway they cannot find in their own area.
Dr Paul Thomas' interest in the students of Taekwondo Cymru has given the club a little boost and reinforced why we do what we do. It's all for the children and the community. That's what it's all about".
